Students may take classes in Crafts and 3D Sculpture. In Crafts class we explore 1) book arts: methods of book binding, decorative papers, suminashi marbling, etc., 2) fibers: crochet, needlepoint and embroidery, etc. 3) printmaking and 4) jewelry and or ornaments geared towards fundraising for travel abroad. We often host guest artist for blow torch glass arts, decorative packaging, and more.
3D Sculpture is offered every other year. In this course we cover topics such as form versus shape, up cycling, installations, body casting with rigid wrap, contained identity, reductive figures, art-bombing for social commentary, etc. Each year the curriculum changes due to themes and ideas that can collaborate amongst other disciplines or large events happening in the world. I pride myself on taking students to galleries, conferences and field trips to explore what is going on with contemporary sculpture.
For more 3D works, please view the student page for ceramics. In hand-building we explore fine and applied arts.
